When:   Sunday April 22nd, 2012 - 8pm   Cost: $11 Donation  – Proceeds To Charity

Standup comedy in the greater Milwaukee area can be traced back over the last 30 years to ONE man – C. Cardell Willis. Willis was a beloved figure and mentor to an entire generation of local and regional comedians beginning in the 1970s when there were no full time comedy clubs in the city. He breathed life into the scene.

Willis’s kindness and generosity are of local legend, as he served as both a father figure to aspiring comedians and an ambassador to audiences - many of them not having ever seen live comedy before. He and his manager Shirley Schaak were the   pioneers of the eventual comedy club scene that would come to be in the 1980s.

Dobie Maxwell, long time nationally touring headliner and one of Willis’s many comedy mentees, thought it was fitting to organize and host a tribute to a person who not only influenced him professionally but personally. “Cardell was my father figure - on stage and off.” Maxwell says. “He IS Milwaukee’s King of Comedy.”

Willis passed away in 2007, and would have turned 75 in 2012. Maxwell located as many comedians as he could find who knew or worked with Willis, and sensed a strong desire to honor a kind soul who gave so much.  Proceeds will be divided equally to benefit Boy Scouts of America and The American Diabetes Association.
